A Culinary Journey for a Cause: Highlights from Our Fundraising Luncheon; Serving Flavors Sharing Smiles!

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent fundraising luncheon, hosted by the students of IIG at MASA Café. This event brought together over 65 guests who indulged in a delectable Thai-inspired three-course meal for just NPR 1200, all while supporting a noble cause. The profits raised from this event, amounting to NPR 48,000, were donated to an orphanage, bringing smiles to the faces of 15 children during the auspicious occasion of Dashain.

A Taste of Thailand with a Local Twist

The carefully curated menu featured a delightful array of flavors designed to resonate with the Nepali palate. Guests began their culinary experience with Green Papaya Salad, a refreshing appetizer that perfectly sets the stage for the main courses. The heart of the meal consisted of Thai Rama Chicken Curry with Butter Rice, alongside a vegetarian alternative of Thai Red Curry with Cottage Cheese, both designed to cater to diverse dietary preferences. To conclude the feast, we served a luscious Coconut Pumpkin Pie for dessert, offering a sweet note to this savory experience.

The choice of menu was intentional, incorporating flavors familiar to our local audience while introducing the essence of Thai cuisine. This thoughtful blend not only showcased our students’ culinary skills but also honored the tastes and preferences of our guests.

Student Involvement: Learning Beyond the Classroom

The event was a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, who took charge of both the production and service aspects. Under the expert guidance of our Chef Instructors, they engaged in various roles, from procurement of raw materials and stock management to menu development and content creation for promotional materials. This hands-on experience allowed them to understand the intricacies of event management in a real-world setting.

Our existing clubs—Food Club, Event Club, and Social Media Club—played a pivotal role in this initiative. Students utilized these platforms to gain exposure to kitchen production and event management, significantly boosting their interpersonal skills, communication abilities, and leadership qualities. Working as a cohesive team, they learned the importance of collaboration and adaptability, skills that are vital for their future careers in the culinary industry.

Making a Difference: Supporting the Orphanage

The impact of the event extends beyond the culinary experience. With the funds raised, we were able to provide not only food but also essential items such as a water dispenser and winter jackets for the children at the orphanage. This generous contribution aligns with our commitment to uplifting the lives of those less fortunate and fostering a spirit of community and giving.

A Holistic Approach to Culinary Education

At IIG, we believe in investing in a holistic approach to learning. Our goal is to cultivate not only aspiring chefs but also future leaders in the culinary industry. By providing opportunities like this fundraising luncheon, we empower our students to grow personally and professionally, equipping them with the skills needed to excel in their careers.

We are immensely proud of our students and grateful to our guests for making this event a resounding success. Together, we have made a meaningful difference in the lives of others while honing the skills necessary for success in the culinary world.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us! Here’s to more events that not only tantalize the taste buds but also touch the heart.
